Two separate traffic stops in Copperas Cove resulted in the seizure of a total of more than $45,000 in cash and more than 6 pounds of marijuana, according to multiple arrest affidavits.
It is not immediately clear if the two cases — which occurred Friday and Saturday — are related.
Friday stop
Police stopped a vehicle driven by Copperas Cove resident Jerry William Evans on Friday afternoon in the 500 block of South Main Street.
According to the affidavit, the Cove police officer detected a “heavy odor of marijuana” coming from Evans’ vehicle. A probable-cause search of the vehicle resulted in the officer finding 10 individual plastic bags of marijuana in 1-ounce increments of a brand called “Cali Plug.”
At the jail, Evans consented to a search of his home in the 400 block of North 11th Street.
According to the affidavit, Evans escorted police to a spare bedroom where they found 49 more bags of Cali Plug marijuana, 484.9 grams of 30-milligram amphetamine pills, two 2-gram THC vape pens, scales, a money-counting machine and an additional 8.6 grams of marijuana.
Police also found $31,000 in cash in a money box in Evans’ master bedroom, according to the affidavit.
The marijuana totaled 1,660.6 grams — or 3.66 pounds.
The Coryell County Grand Jury returned four complaints against Evans: possession of marijuana over 4 ounces but under 5 pounds; possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, Penalty Group 1-B, more than 4 grams but less than 200 grams; possession of a controlled substance, Penalty Group 2, greater than or equal to 400 grams, with intent to deliver; and possession of a controlled substance, Penalty Group 2, greater than or equal to 4 grams but less than 400 grams.
Saturday stop
On Saturday, an officer stopped a vehicle while he was patrolling in the 900 block of Pack Avenue in Copperas Cove.
The driver, later identified as Dusty Earl Gray, stopped in the 200 block of Sycamore Drive, according to police.
According to the affidavit, the officer conducted a probable-cause search of the vehicle because of what he said Gray told him. During the search, the officer said he “detected a strong pungent odor” coming from the vehicle that he associated with marijuana.
While searching, the officer found a gray shopping bag with two baggies, both containing a leafy substance, according to the affidavit.
The officer also found a Canik TP9 9mm handgun in the vehicle. The officer arrested Gray on suspicion of possession of marijuana under 2 ounces and unlawful carrying of a weapon, the affidavit said.
At the jail, Gray declined a search of his residence after explaining that he had multiple children and his girlfriend at his residence in the 400 block of Cottonwood Drive, near Mae Stevens Early Learning Academy.
Officers went to the residence and asked the girlfriend for consent to search the residence, which she declined also. While speaking with the woman, however, police saw things that led them to obtaining a search warrant by Coryell County Justice of the Peace Bill Price.
Police returned with the warrant and searched the residence, which officers said had “an overwhelming odor of marijuana.”
While searching the residence, police noticed a “marijuana room” that had a black poster with “shop” hours, pricing of numerous items and specified that the “shop” was open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, police said.
Inside the room, police found 17 “reward” punch cards, 21 grams of Denver Dab Company THC wax, along with “several” Eureka THC vape cartridges, the affidavit read. They also found “several dozen” Eureka vape pens, an orange digital scale with marijuana residue and a cup with marijuana residue.
In total, there was 99 grams of THC, 94 grams from Eureka THC pens, 4 grams of THC from a “FRYD THC” vape and 1 gram from Jolly THC vape pens.
Police also found “several large stainless-steel containers” filled with marijuana. In total, police seized 1,360.78 grams — or around 3 pounds — of marijuana and “401 plastic pink or black” baggies similar to those found during the traffic stop earlier in the day, the affidavit read.
Police also found 14 packets of marijuana seeds and a total of $14,455 in cash.
The county grand jury returned a complaint of possession of marijuana over 4 ounces but less than 5 pounds in a drug-free zone.
Police also arrested the woman in the residence, Elizabeth Cassandra Bullard.

Oh boy thank God we have police to get all of the dAnGeRoUs mAriJuAnA off the streets. Guess we should be thankful the cops didn’t murder anyone and didn’t shoot the dog when they searched his resident.

And if it was legal as it should be they could be using all that revenue towards schools and road repairs and other things that are needed…
