Magnolia Pictures has nabbed North American rights to Support the Girls, writer-director Andrew Bujalski’s follow-up to 2015’s Results, ahead of a world premiere Friday at the SXSW Film Festival.
Magnolia, which released Results, plans a theatrical release for Support the Girls later this year. Bujalski’s latest film stars Regina Hall (Girls Trip) as a restaurant manager who may not love her job but loves her employees like family. That leads to a group of women banding together to forge a family in the most unlikely of places.

Support the Girls features an ensemble cast including Haley Lu Richardson, Shayna McHayle, Brooklyn Decker, Jana Kramer, James Le Gros, Dylan Gelula, AJ Michalka and Lea DeLaria.
“We’ve been big fans of Andrew Bujalski for a long time and we’re excited to work with him again on Support the Girls,” Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles said Wednesday in a statement.
“It’s a happy surprise to discover that any distributor we’ve worked with in the past is still in business,” added Bujalski in his own statement.
Support the Girls was produced by Houston King and Sam Slater. Jonathan Fryd, Scott Carmel, David Bernon, Susan Kirr and Paul Bernon executive produced.
The deal was negotiated by Magnolia senior vp of acquisitions John Von Thaden, with ICM Partners on behalf of the filmmakers.
